Today, I was burning a CD with it (not a DVD, I have refused to burn any after this problem), and worked just fine.
I dropped in another CD to burn, and it starts giving me strange errors. It ranges from INVALID_REQUEST, to a new one I just got:
11:12:33 PM #18 DVDR -1189 File ThreadedTransferInterface.cpp, Line 1396
Misplaced Media-Command (e.g. DVD-Cmd on CDR-Media)
11:12:33 PM #19 TRANSFER -27 File ThreadedTransferInterface.cpp, Line 1396
Could not perform start of Disc-At-Once
The original errors I got were errors I used to see with my old CD burner, when I was using media that was just really bad. The media I am using is fine, and the burner WILL write to it. Just when its in DAO/96 mode. However, when I use DAO/96, it fails to write leadout tracks, giving me an error like EndSession could not be performed. When this happens, my computer refuses to read the CDs, and coasters are a waste of money.
These errors occured using Nero specifically, but I have also tried burning CDs with FireBurner and CDRWin. Each gave me errors that were worded similarly.
Now, I only bought this thing a month ago. So it is still covered under warranty, so if its a problem that I cant fix, then I can just get a new one. But, I'd much rather be able to fix this without having to rip my computer apart and get a new one.
Any help or suggestions are welcome.

This particular area of the form doesn't get too many hits mate, compared to the rest at least.
Did you flash the firmware to the region free version? Cos I did, and now I'm making 1/3 coasters. Every damn DVD over 4Gb is duff, the one last night works fine in my DVD-ROM but players either don't read it or say wrong region
Need to work out how to change it back again. -
I havent flashed it at all. It came with the latest firmware revision, and I really wasnt in the mood to mess with that. I have no idea.
All things said, I formatted tonight (it was getting to be that time anyway). I decided to pop Nero up, and burned a cd quickly. Oddly enough it worked. But, this isnt the first time it started working again. So chances are, it'll break again. Stupid stuff.
Anyway -
Not knowing all the details, too many to ask for anyway, it could just be too many different CD burning software installed.
Most tend to install their own driver. Nero uses it's own, 321 studio (DVDXCopy or what ever) uses another, Pinnacle Instant Copy will install it's own. You get the picture.
You can also get alot of recording errors if you use a Packet writing software like Direct CD, or Veritas DLA. Those apps can wreck havack.
Turn off Windows XP's (if your using it) built in burning for that drive by right clicking on it in the explorer, and selecting properties. You can get IMAPI errors if you leave this enabled.
Having the right ASPI layer can help too. I haven't updated past 4.6, 4.7 always gave me problems so I didn't fix what wasn't broke. -
I did figure that there was just too much crap getting installed. I originally just used Nero... but when I got the a05, I wanted to see what I could do with it, and that did mean installing a bunch of different software.
Not long after, my problems did start. I posted my first message, and then decided to install adaptecs aspi layer.. burner worked fine for a week, and then I had problems again. Formatting is a wonderful thing sometimes.
Anyway, it seems to like me now..
