I made a hightlight video of my son's football game using Pinnacle Studio 8 this past fall. I saved each completed game highlight video on my hard drive in VCD format (and later burned to a VCD). I just purchased a Sony DVD burner so I can make a complete season on one DVD-R disc. Using Sonic MyDVD program, I have had to take each Studio project (game) and resave it as a DVD compatable format. Unfortunately, one game was not saved as a project in Studio 8, but I have the MPG1 original burn as well as a VCD burn saved on my hard drive. My question ... is there any way I can convert the original MPG1 or VCD is created from Studio 8 to a DVD format without having to recapture the DV from my camcorder and redo the entire project again on Studio 8? Anyones help will be surely appreciated as I'm trying to get this DVD compilation Hightlight Video ready for graduation presents.![]()

Short verison is:
1) Use VCDGear or VCDEasy to convert DAT file to MPEG1 file
2) Demux MPEG1 file to m1v(video) and mp2 (audio)
3) Re-encode mp2 to 48khz (and ac3, as mp2 is not supported by the DVD standard; however most players can play mp2 audio). You can do this with either TMPGenc (see the guide above) or BeSweet or headac3ch
http://www.doom9.org/audio-guides.htm
4) Author the DVD using the m1v video and 48khz encoded audio. -
Thanks for the quick reply. I'll share with you now that I'm a novice at this stuff and the instructions #2 and so on make no sense to me. I will check out VCDgear but at that point I'm totally confused. Thanks just the same to your reply.

VCDEasy is easier to use than VCDGear. There are links to both at http://www.doom9.org
MPEG files are made of several 'streams.' These streams contain video, audio, and subtitles (MPEG2 only). If you have an MPEG file that contains all of these streams in one file we say that the streams are 'multiplexed' (aka muxed) together.
It's also possible seperate the MPEG file into it's streams. So I take a MPEG (in windows normally *.mpg file) and spilt it into a video only (m1v) and audio only (mp2) file. This process is known as 'de-multiplexing' (aka demuxing).
In this case there's no need to re-encode the video, so we spilt the audio and video into seperate files. Then just re-encode the audio. The DVD standard calls for 48khz audio so we need to change the frequency.
MP2 audio = mpeg1 layer 2 (sort of a step below MP3 = mpeg1/2 layer3). The DVD standard does NOT support mp2 audio. However, most NTSC (US) players will play it anyway. The only supported audio formats (ie. stream types) for DVD are ac3 and PCM (aka uncompressed wav file). PCM audio files are HUGE! So most people use ac3.
To convert the mp2 (44.1khz) audio to ac3 (48khz) you can use several different programs. See the above link on this site or the audio link at doom9.org provided above.
I hope this helps some. As is often the case this all makes a lot more since we you try to do it, so give it a go and let us know if you need any more help. But please feel free to ask any more questions/background before too.
If you have not done so PLEASE READ the "what is a DVDR" section to the left. It goes into the VOB (muxed DVD files) supported resolutions, etc. -
There are several ways to tackle this:

some easier then othersSVCD2DVD v2.5, AVI/MPEG/HDTV/AviSynth/h264->DVD, PAL->NTSC conversion.
