  1. I have learned from reading up this forum that Apple dvd-r 2X ($3 a disc) is a rebadged of Maxell. Then there is no reason to buy Apple as it would be more expensive. So I thought. I went to the store, and was surprise to find out that the Maxell dvd-r ($4-$5 a disc) is actually more expensive than the Sony. Is it true then, the only way to get a Maxell disc that is cheaper than Apple is through the web, at $2 a disc.

    Thanks for your comments.

Apple keeps a fairly "cut throat" price compaired to the other major media dealers, mainly because they want a decent and cheap disk for the Mac users to know will work everytime. So personally its not surprising that they sell the disk cheaper then the manufactuer does.

Thanks for the input flaystus. My original assumption is wrong then. It's actually more cost effective for us to buy the Apple's disc then.

At first Apple DVD-R discs were Pioneer-made. Then Mitsibushi Chemicals made some. Now Maxell. When Maxell took over, the Apple 5-packs nose-dived from $25 each to $15 each. Partly because of lowering media cost, and partly because Maxell discs are nowhere near as good as Pioneers were.

Apple only makes good products. They won't stoop to cheap garbage, so Apple will always be a safe buy.

(And no, I own several PCs, and work with Macs. I'm not just giving out Apple propaganda. They just take pride in offering solid products.)
I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored.

Actually I think I remember reading somewhere that when a test once showed the Maxell disk actually performing better then the Pioneers in a test. Could be wrong though, but I KNOW someone at least SAID that.

Agree. I always associate first class quality with Apple products. Used to feel the same way about Sony, but now, for some reasons, I no longer place them at top notch overall.
