  2. Sure, it's easy. I do it all the time. I believe it's under

    amplitude->normalize

Check there...I'm at work now and do not have access to CoolEdit.

  4. You probably want to 'normalise' the audio - increase its volume so that the loudest bits are as loud as they can be without distorting, and the rest of the file is also boosted in volume by the same proportion.

I'm sure CoolEdit can do this, there are dozens of other ways of doing it:

    DVD2AVI
    TMPGEnc
    SSRC
    Soundforge
    Goldwave
    Audacity

    to name a few.

    cheers,
    mcdruid.

[edit] the others above beat me to reply! [/edit]

Try looking at dbPowerAmp, I use that quite a lot for conversion from MP3 to WAV for audio streams I've extracted, and also for various other bits and pieces that it can do to audio tracks

It also supports downloading to virtually any MP3 player, but apply some effects, and its cheaper/quicker than CEP

    Forgot,

Also, have a look at SoundProbe by HiSoft, its a very sound editor, which I think has better built-in filters than CEP, and is about 4 times cheaper

Can do just as much as CEP, plus now supports VST plug-ins, with DirectX plug-in support on the way

Not that I'm plugging it, just have a look, it can even improve those crappy sound tracks that could do with cleaning up, boosting, frequencies adding, etc, etc

Better than GoldWave, and I've used GoldWave for a few things, but SoundProbe is well supported

  8. Cooledit does a fine job of normalizing.

  9. Yeah, set it to normalise to 99%, that will do the trick.
