Recover DVD RW

I had a bad/aborted burn of a DVD+RW disc with Nero.
Now my computer does not recognize the disc.
How do I erase/recover this disc?

well that depends on what data actually got recoded to the disc, open nero, close the wizard and then goto recorder -> erase re-writable and perform a full erase, if that doesnt work then the disc is defective

The problem is that I can't get any program to even recognize that a disc is present in the drive.
I have had the same problem with some DVD+R discs too, but after ejecting them in and out, wiping them, etc. multiple times, they are eventually recognized, and I don't understand why. I'm talking about new, blank discs here.
As for the DVD+RW disc, the writing process was aborted midway in the process. Still, there should be some way to erase the disc, but I keep getting the no media present message.
