I'm going to go for the Datavideo DAC-100. Want to see what you DAC "users" are using for a 1394 card? Also with Win XP. I want compatiblility.

Don't give in to DVD2ONE, that leads to the dark side.

I'm using a no-name card.No probs at all.Works with Win2K and XP.

Before I had a HDB with dropped frames fromß.1 to 1%.WHat a difference. -
I guess I just get one of those cheap'O cards on e-bay.

the ads pyro is considered (and recomended by avid and sonic foundry) as the best you can get -- not expensive you get the version without all the software

Is using the SIMA copy master with the DAC considered overkill since the DAC has a Macro killer already?Don't give in to DVD2ONE, that leads to the dark side. -
Do you recommend the capture software that comes with it or another?

www.sonicfoundry.com makes better quality software for multimedia stuff. -

I'm using the firwire on my MSI motherboard and it works fine. videoguys.com has the ADS Pyro with a software bundle for $109 or somehting like that. Can't say anything about the software, but it looks like a good deal if you need software as well.

Yeah that's what I'm wondering about next. Should I get the regular one (card) without software or the one with. I don't mind going with an outside software.

And was most certainly meant in this context.
I'm sorry you've never heard of it before.

There seem to be a lot of Belkin 1394 cards on Ebay recently. I bougth one and got a *really* nicely made one with a TI chipset (supposed to be a lot better than VIA). It might be worth trying one of these out for $20 or so.

Hi,
Stay clear of the texus instrument chip set. Canopus have noted problems with it achieving its top speed and it reportably has problems with some of canopus hardware.
Read FAQ on there website -
Ironwood,
Yep, I've heard of the problems with TI based cards on more than one occasion and product. The cards I'm running all have the VIA chip set. In addition to using them @ home. I 've been using them on 22 servers with FW attached storage and tape drives. I've had ZERO conflict or failures using them. I get max through put with no problems. I personally have no experience with TI, other then reading about issues with Adobe Premiere and also the Canopus ADVC 100. The cards I get from my parts distributor come in a red and white box, come with UL VS 5LE, cable, made in Taiwan with the model number MP6303 (Same as the VIA chip on it.). They have 3 ports external and one internal.... So far I've used it with the Canopus ADVC 100, DAC 100, Sony TRV 140, TRV 900, Pioneer A03 DVD-RW, WinXP sp1, Win2k sp3, Adobe Premiere 6.5 and a bunch of external HDs... So I'd have to say for the $$$$ not a bad card.......
