Actually there is audio, but only if I preview the file in Virtual Dub. But if i try to play the movie using Windows Media Player, all I get is silence/low level hissing. Any way I can watch my movies without having to goto Virtual Dub or converting the avi to mpg?

Maybe you dont have the correct audio codec on your pc. Look at the properties of the file in explorer to see what audio codec is being used and make sure you have the codec.
Maybe being a d/l divx the audio is "crap" anyway and hasn't been properly encoded, if at all !

The codec is Mpeg-3. I think it is encoded properly, because the files can be previewed in virtual dub with proepr audio. It's just that it wont play correctly when i simply double click it.

Have you got the correct mpeg-3 audio codec installed. If your not sure get the radium codecs which have all or most of the mpeg-3 versions.
Windows media player sometimes cant find the correct codec and a simple re-install of radium may fix it.
You could also try a proper divx player. The Playa is a good one.
Other than that i'm short of ideas other than the audio is somehow corrupted within the divx file.
