Hi all,
I have been looking arround the forum and guides but need some help if poss.
I have a question. I currently have lots of 400 meg mpg files that I want to put accross to DVD. In theory I should be able to put at least 9 or 10 files on one DVD if the blank DVD is 4.2 gig.
My question is this.... Whatever program I use like ULEAD or NEO to add the files to the DVD image...the files come out much much bigger than 400 meg...this meaning I can only stick arround 3 or 4 files on one DVD.
What I need is the DVD to act like a VCD so I can copy the files straight to DVD and then play them on a DVD player and not convert them into a DVD style file.
Can this be done??
Hope this makes some kind of sense to someone.
Cheers.....Pud

You can convert vcd to dvd without increasing the size and without converting the video:
www.dvdrhelp.com/vcddvdr
if that does not work try svcd2dvdmpg, www.svcd2dvdmpg -
If I had to quess (esp since you said you use Ulead not sure about neo) what's happening is that your program is converting the MP2 audio (44.1 khz) to PCM (48khz uncompressed). PCM audio is huge. I know that Ulead does this.
See the above quide. But basically here's what I did to convert my (x)VCDs onto DVDs:
1) Use VCDGear to convert DAT file to MPEG1 (you already have MPEG1 files)
2) Demux MPEG1 file to m1v and mp2 with TMPGenc
3) Use headac3he to convert mp2 to 48khz AC3 file

4) Author (in my case Maestro) the m1v and ac3 files. -
If using ULead DVD MovieFactory, just alter the project settings :
Start a new project, add your files, obviously the bar at the bottom will probably show that you have more than a DVD can fit ......
Click the "Project Settings" option, or just press ALT+J, to bring up the project settings menu
Click on the "Change MPEG Settings", scroll down, and select the "CIF 352x288" setting. This will give you 6 hours per DVD. That should be enough for what you want
Still in the "Change MPEG Settings", after doing the above change, scroll down to "Customize", select the "Compression" tab, and change the audio format from "LPCM" to "MPEG"
Leave the audio bit rate as it is, it won't make much different, even reducing it to 128bit, and you may introduce bad conversion noise, as ULead isn't really an audio editor
Click "OK", and return back to the main window, the DVD size bar should now be tiny compared to what it was, if its too small, just go back to "Change MPEG Settings" and try playing around with bit rate settings
until you are hapy with getting the best quality, and the best space useage per DVD
Just remember not to go past the little green vertical bar on the DVD size bar, as MovieFactory will complain it won't fit on a DVD
Personally I use the CBR rate, as I can then be certain of exactly what the size will be, plus it's quicker as you don't have to wait for a 2-pass stage -
Vejita-sama: Ulead moviefactory 2 and workshop can convert to mp2. Which version of headac3he can convert to ac3??? or are you thinking about besweet?
