Since I updated to Windows Media Player 9, all my video clips are playing with the picture stretched horizontally. Does anyone know how to change it? It still plays the Windows sample file ok. It's just the video files which I've made.

windows media player 9 is evil and must be destroyed.

very biased, prejudiced, likely to alienate a lot of people, and with little or no basis in fact i know, but i must speak what my heart feels.

uninstall that nonsense and all should hopefully be fine, unless it has permanently blown a hole in the side of your video drivers.

Back after a long time away, mainly because I now need to start making up vidcapped DVDRs for work and I haven't a clue where to start any more!

I've tried it with 'fit video to player on resize' and 'fit player to video on clip start' both checked and unchecked, but it doesn't make any difference.

  6. I hate the recent versions of WMP. From 7 on its gotten WAAAAAY to large. Its takes like 20 secs to load the darn thing up. My 6.4 loads in all of about 2-3 secs.

I downloaded Winamp, but didn't like it, so I uninstalled it, but now all my files are left with the Winamp icon. How can I get the WMP icon back?

Was the last version of WMP 7 or 8? I thought it was 8, but I can only find 7 to download.

WMP8 was only for windows XP, it was built in. WMP 7 & 9 are for non XP os's. Although you could certainly run them on XP.

  10. Windows Media Player 6.4 is still the best. I only upgraded to WMP9 because some streaming clips wouldn't work under WMP6.4.

  11. I don't care for WMP9 much for viewing videos(I prefer PowerDVD)but I like the WMA9 codec,it's a huge improvement over WMA7.WMP9 is more resistant to hackers than previous versions and plays streamed content with higher quality and less buffering.

Ditto. I even tried to stay away from 7.1, but 6.4 has too much trouble processing streaming data.

  13. I totally avoided WMP7. If I wanted a bloated piece of crap that does everything but nothing well I would just install Windows ME.

Will WMP8 be on my WinXP disc? I'm afraid to stick it in incase it starts re-installing WinXP or something.

So you can play video clip in PowerDVD? How do you import the clip into it?

Go download WMP 6.4 mod...it plays everything(standalone exe). It comfortable co-exists with WMP 7+.

You didn't read the EULA did you? Sorry, boot from floppy and type in format c:\

You can't uninstall WMP9, or DirectX 9 , or WME 9 (Hmmmmm, 999??? sounds like the sign of the beast....Bill). Well, WMP9 is supposed to un-install, but I had messed up codecs after un-installing it. (after installing also, WMP9 did it).

    You do realize WMP6 isn't deleted? Just do a start/run mplayer2.exe
Maybe WMP8 is still there somewhere as well. WMP8....well.....the trick is finding where it 'lives'. Did you scour the M$ site for it? WMP9 hasn't been out that long, maybe someone saved the download?
