  1. I tried to author a DVD from VOB files, but ran into a little snag. Any help is welcome.
    1) I started with 18 VOB files (each is one song)
    2) I used VOBEdit to join all of them , result is a VIDEO_TS folder with about 5 VOB files in there
    3) I use IFOEdit (following the guide in this Web site), did everything the guide said. IFOEdit also create chapter point for every cell (original VOB), this is a really great feature.
    4) I also try the DVD Play (inside IFOEdit) and it see all 18 chapters. I can randomly select anyone and it plays the correct one.
    5) I burn the VIDEO_TS folder using Nero (which is how I normally burn DVD with)

    On my DVD player,
    1) the NEXT/ PREV keys do not work (i.e. select next or previous chapter)
    2) only numeric keys 1-9 work correctly (i.e. play the correct song)
    3) I have tried everything I can and there is no way I can get to chapter #10 or beyond.

Can anyone help with this ? or is this a limitation of IFOEdit ?
Or if you have a better way, please let me know.

    Thank you.

  4. I got updated info on what really happened, info on my previous e-mail was reported by my relative who tested the disc for me while I go to work.

The DVD disc I made with the method above does work. I can select any of the 18 songs by pressing the correct numeric keys. My relative does not know how to select chapters > 10 !!!.

However, there are still some peculiar things:
    1) the NEXT / PREV keys do not always work as expected, sometimes it bring up the wrong chapter
    2) the DVD player DOES NOT display the chapter number correctly. Everything is like 1-0 <time>, it's weird but it works.

Anyway, I did another experiment using neoDVD Plus:
    1) import each VOB as a new video file
    2) I end up with 18 video clips (3 pages menu, each with 6 thumbnails)
    3) neoDVD simply do a fast encode on the VOB (i.e. it does not re-encode) and quickly produce a VIDEO_TS folder with everything needed to burn with Nero, AC3 audio are kept intact. I love neoDVD even more for this capability. (have not burned the disc yet, must go to work).

  5. The experiment where I authored 18 VOBs with neoDVD software is a success. The final DVD has 3 pages menu with 6 thumbnails each.

There is one catch: if the VOB files contain 2 or more audio tracks (English, French for example), then ONLY the first one is kept (English). neoDVD throwed away other audio tracks. Therefore, this method cannot be used for karaoke VOBs which normally have two audio tracks.
