  1. i have found is this 99.9% of the dvd players support dvd-r/rw so what the point of buying sony dvd-rw/+rw ? by the way the sony external model only is available over here and it costs around 490$us the internal is not coming over here. where as the pioneer dvra05 is just for 317$us . so i wanted to know if the dvd video on -r is different from +r in terms of quality etc . And what abt when burning the media to the dvd dics(-r or +0r) is there a difference ? iam planing for pioneer snce i can afford it . so does any one have negative point abt it ? pls help me to decide ....thanx

There only difference video wise between the two would be caused by the media being used, not the DVDRW itself. Both formats burn movies that can be read on most dvd players so there isn't much of a gamble there. If the price difference is that great then get the Pioneer, you'll likely love it. Also check out media prices in your area/country that way you'll know which is likely to be cheaper in the long run.

There's no difference between video on +R or -R when viewed on a compatible standalone DVD. But the burning process is faster on +R than -R (x2.4 vs x2) - I think someone on this site has also mentioned longer lead in and out times on -R too. That said, once you step up to x4 speeds, I don't think there's much to separate -R from +R (lead in and out aside).

whatever sony is advertising is a lie.
when i had sony dru500 i made few dvd+r rips, and one saturday we tested them on all standalones in one of the large electronics store.
Out of 34 players we tested there only 19 were able to play +R discs somehow. And some any problems with navigation of + disc, i.e. they froze at FF (most common problem).
Yet all standalones played -R discs.
Thus I see no point in buying "+" only format burners, or using "+" discs on multiformat burners. Maybe in 2-3 years in the future all standalones will have no problem with "+" recordable discs, but as of now merely half of them is able to play them. Heck, not even all sony players do play their own format... so right now its only -R that counts.
I gladly sold my dru500 and im happy with cheap LG4020B now. Its only 2x but anyway 4x blanks are too expensive for me

You can bash me now all you +R fanboys lol (like i care
