I'm pulling my hair out on this. I have backed up treasure planet onto a dvd-r using dvdxcopy but it won't play on my standalone player. Then I tried dvd+r with the same result. I tried different kinds of brand (verbatim, tdk, imation, fujifilm) but they all failed. Then I tried backing it onto dvd+rw and it works. I have checked the compatibility of my player (sony dvp-s7700) at this site and it says it has no problem reading all the formats above. So what gives? Any suggestions would be appreciated. I thought I could perhaps lower the burn speed when I burn the dvd-+r but dvdxcopy doesn't give you that option. Does the software automatically detects what speed the dvd-+r are and sets the speed auto? Or is there a setting where I could lower it myself and burn it this way. I'm using XP and I coudn't find any setting to lower the speed so the only thing I can come up with is setting dma mode to 1 instead of 2. Is this right?
Thanks ahead for any answers/suggestions.

Is that DVDX Copy or DVDX Copy Xpress? Anyway if you read the users comments for your player you will see it doesn't always work for all brands of media as this one comment points out.
"When used with DVD-R disks recorded on the Pioneer PVR-9000, it appears that certain media work much better than others. For example,
These worked well every time:
Memorex, Maxell, Apple, Pioneer (new disks)
These were poor, with some image breakup:
Imation, TDK
These didn't work at all ("cannot play" enter right away or part way through, lots of breakup):
CompUSA, Samsung, Pioneer (old DVD-R disks)
Burning from a Pioneer A04 seemed to work better, but I've only tested the older Pioneer DVD-R disks. "
I would first try burning a DVD+RW disc to test a burn so you don't waste media but you may just have a player that doesn't want to play many brands of media.
You can pick up a Mintek 1600 player at BestBuy for $50 that will play anything you throw at it.Another good player is the Sony DVP-NS715p which is a progressive player that plays both DVD-RW and DVD+RW and of course mp3 and svcd/vcd.
