Are you converting from DVD to VCD?

If so, take a look in the following guide to obtain permanent subtitles in a MPEG-1 movie:

    Good luck.

  4. What's your source for video and subtitles? If the answer to both is DVD then there are a lot of ways, the flexion.org link is as good as any other.

If you're talking about adding subs to a DivX or home video that's a little different. In that case you'll need to have a sepearate file with the subtitles in it (normally a text file with the start/stop times for each line of text that will be displayed).

The 'easiest' way to do this is with SubStation Alpha and Virtual Dub. D/load the SSA filter for VDub from the VDub url. D/load SSA and it's script convertor. Convert your script to SSA format. Then run VDub and add the SSA filter and your script. I would do a few tests to make sure the subs are in sync with your the video (read about shift/ramp on the SSA url), then frameserve to your encoder.

  5. Tried with SubStation Alpha to synchronize subtitels...it failed because the wav-file I used (converted with VirtualDub the audio from the divx to wav.)was in stereo and SSA only can work with mono-files..
Then I synchronized titels and divx with subsync and that worked out great...
