AFAIK the express DV card is just a FW card with some sort of SW.
This is not a "capture" card for analog signals, only digital (DV) streams can be transferred to your PC (from a DCR for ex.).If you want to "capture" analog, you'll need an external A/D converter like Hollywood DV bridge or DataVideo DAC 100 (analog Video <-> DV device).
You connect your VCR (audio+video) to the device and the device with FW cable to your Pinn. Expr. DV card.Use any usable application for "capturing" then to get your avi into your PC.

U could also use a Digital8 or some MiniDV camcorder as a passthrough. Analog in, firewire out.
Just because you aren't paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get you!
