Video-CD on CD-i 3.2/CD-i 4.1.1

Hi

Can somebody help me.

I want to create a vcd for my cdi player (philips). All the programs i used (VCDeasy,Nero, Easycdcreator) uses the newer bin version CD-I 4.1.1.
So the runtime version (4.1.1) is hard coded in the program.

But I want to create vcd with the older version CD-I 3.2. Because I find it much better for playing vcd on a cdi.

Does somebody know how to burn a vcd with version CD-I 3.2 ?

Yes,

Go to the CD-I website (http://www.icdia.org/sw_app/index.html), and download the v3.2 player app zipfile. Swap that with the v4.1.1 file that came w/VCDEasy etc. (SAVING THE ORIGINAL in an alternate directory and using the swapped in its place).

Setup and burn as before. Should work, let us know if it doesn't. 8)

Thankx for you quick response.

But I tried your solution before with several programs also with vcdeasy.

I replaced the directory where version 4.1.1 was with version 3.2. But when i start vcdeasy it tells me that files are missing. So I think vcdeasy checks that directory everytime it starts.

Hmm, I see what you mean--just tried it myself. It doesn't give me a "missing files" message, but it doesn't show up a CDI folder in the ISO section of VCDEasy like it should.

Maybe you could try this:
Create an XML of your layout, Save your layout also. Then close out the program, swap folders, reopen the app, Reload the layout, and create an additional XML with the changes. Compare XML's. Should be the same except the CDI folder contents.
Then, in text editor, add new (v3.2) contents in same manner as (v4.1.1) contents. RTF and DAT files should be the files that might need to be Mode2Form2 or Mode2MixedForm type. Try various combinations of the forms for these files, try removing files until it works and then adding some back in one-by-one. My tests showed it only working with the CDI_VCD.APP and CDI_FONT.FNT remaining--all else removed. My guess is that you could add more--or bring back the CDI_IMAG.RTF from the other version and rename it to CDI_A32.RTF. Create BIN/CUEs from the XML using the VCDIMAGER tools, then burn. Keep comparing and making disc images or using CD-RW's or cheap -R's.

The other thing to try is to get ahold of the CDI app from some other VCDburning app, such as ECDC or Videopack/WinonCD. Compare dates / sizes with the two versions you already have.

PS-If you really do want to use the v3.2 CDI app, make sure your VCD material conforms to v1.1 and not 2.0. The v3.2 doesn't support all the features of VCD 2.0, only the v4.1 or v4.1.1 does that. (Info about this is on the CD-I website).

As per Cornucopia's post. You can use the older version of the CD-i app. with VCDImager only.

However, if you want to enjoy VCD2.0 functionality, you must use the newer version...

Ok thankx guys i will do some more test.

But I was thinking i have a cd that was made (not by me) with version cd-i 3.2. There are 12 videoclips (movies) on it.

Isn't there a possibility to make a copy of it and then replace the 12 clips by my clips and then burn it again

Yes (in a way).

Use CDRWin to extract the existing VCD to a CUE/BIN image and then use VCDXRIP to extract all the files off it as well as creating an XML descriptor.

Now, the part of the XML descriptor that you NEED to further create your VCDs is the filesystems part which now has the CD-i files from your existing VCD.

You can now modify the rest of the disc (in terms of adding new video clips) and then rebuild (with VCDXBUILD) it to a new CUE/BIN image ready for burning.
