Can sombody out there help me/ provide me with some advice. I have recently purchased a Samsung S224 DVD Player based on the advice from this sight (most specifically from the compatability section). In short, whilst I can get a VCD disk to play (with 2 layers of menu screens) I cannot get any DVD + media, that I have previously created, to play. I have about 10-12 DVD+R disks that a considerable amount of effort has gone into producing. They are on Intenso 4.7GB DVD+R disks, been created with Ulead DVD Movie Factory and have been burned under the latest version of Nero with the suggested UDF/ISO formula (including UDF 1.02) as discussed in these forums. In short they play ok on my PC via software.

Placing one of these DVD+R disks in the S224 just brings up the word 'STOP' and CH (chapter) 1 in the display. I cannot get things to go any further.

Having got no further with the DVD+R disks I tried seeing whether it was the media that was creating the problem and copied one of my film disks onto a DVD+RW by Datawrite via disk copier, i.e keeping the format but changing the surface but this did not work producing the same result.

I then tried, via Nero, burning the Audio_Ts and Video_TS files from one of my DVD+R disks, after transferring such to my hard drive, onto a Datawrite DVD+RW using the 'DVD Film' option. Once again only the 'STOP' and nothing more.

I am now lost. I have wasted a lot of media in the past and do not want to throw away the 12 that I have. Neither do I want a Samsung paperweight. Any advices anybody. With all the voices saying that this player will eat anything thrown at it I would find it next to impossible for both a Datawrite and an Intenso to be a 'blacklisted' media and I am certain that I have the format itself right.

    Please help.

I have made progress on things in as much as I have been now able to take the previous Video_TS that I had transferred to my hard drive and use NEO DVD to burn such onto a DVD+RW. The movie now plays (although it hates motion in the video with jerking/ghosting etc). Also I have done an experiment and used Ulead DVD Movie factory to create a test movie set up and burn such onto another DVD+RW and this plays as well.

Replacing all my disks (that I now count at 19 and not 11) is not something I wish to do though. I cannot understand why the DVD+R's that I have archived will not play - they are in the recommended format etc etc. Also what is it that NEO DVD and ULEAD DMF are doing different that does allow them to play? Any ideas?

I think I have found the answer in as much as this machine needs the menu screens placed at the very start of the disk. It is no good if they have been put in randomly/where they will fit by Nero. Ulead and NeoDVD knows where to put them whilst the former generic program does not. Means I have to start over!

Also beware - this player does not like Field B based video. Use Field A or Frame Based. Field B produces horrendous jerkiness etc, etc
