  1. Ok, each time Ive tried this I have been drinking (my disclaimer).
Im trying to copy some of my rips back to video so I can lend them to the unfortunates that still dont have dvd players (yes, apparently they exist).

My set up is two pcs both high spec, one with sony dvd burner, one without. Have a canopus advc 100 connected to video recorder going into pc without the burner......and both machines are networked, so I bounce avi to the burner when I need to .........

ANyhows, how do I copy my avis and dvds/vcds to video cassette easily....and no, I dont want to disconect the video and plug it back into my hifi system with commercial dvd player....the video now lives in the office.......
any help on this will be appreciated, as Im close to the bottom of the scotch bottle.
No flaming please...if you need more detail such as video cards etc, just ask.
    Cheers

Put the bottle down, burn a VCD/DVD-RW with the videos on them, and play it on your DVD player while recording it to your VCR.

    gavmiester,

I assume because you are using the Canopus unit, that you work in DV. As long as you have a version of your edited video in DV format, you use the "print to tape function" in your video editing program (VideoStudio, Vegas, Premiere, etc). This will accept the video over the firewire and the Canopus will convert the digital stuff back to analog for output to your VCR.

Well I haven't used Vegas to print to tape (done it many times in Premiere) so I don't have the details. There may be some little trick. In Premiere, I got inconsistent results until I found that turning off the screen monitoring made the print to tape work properly. That may be just my system.

The folks at the Sonic Foundry forums are super helpful so I would post there: www.sonicfoundry.com/forums

    One more thing.....

In your original post you mention DVDs/VCDs. The Canopus unit just converts analog to DV and DV to analog. You can't play an mpeg1/2 on the timeline out to tape. The timeline would need to be in DV format.
