  1. Hi, I've recently got into decoding DivX movies and burning to SVCD. Anyway, I've had no problem with DivX films thus far, but I recently tried to convert an XVID film to SVCD and have had some slight problems.

First, my TMPG Enc would crash everytime, so I read around and found the part of this site on changing the Environmental Settings for doing XVID's. I changed my settings to the following:

    DirectShow Multimedia File Reader.......3
    AVI2(OpenDML) File Reader................1
    AVI VFW compatibility Reader.............0
    CyberLink MPEG-2 Decoder.................0
    Microsoft MPEG-1 Decoder.................0
    Wave File Reader..............................0
    BMP/PPM/TGA/JPG File Reader...........-2
    DVD2AVI Project File Reader 1.76+.....-2*
    TMPGEnc Project File Reader 2.58......-2*

TMPG Enc converted the movie alright, or at first I thought. However, when I checked the film, both on my computer and on my DVD player, the playback seems to be jerky (that's the only way I can really describe it), it's not to the point where the film is unwatchable, but it is quite off putting, and seems to be more of a problem on the second CD of the film than on the first, it's not stopping and starting, there just really isn't a fluent feel to the picture quality.

I checked the original source file and this was problem wasn't occuring, it's a 23.976 FPS film. So I converted with the NTSC Film setting, and burnt in Nero with NTSC. Is there anything I can do to improve the quality of the film once it has been converted to SVCD and burnt?

Put the enviromental settings back to their defaults, (I have the directshow setting at -1...any higher and I get jerkiness). Then just use the FourCC changer on your XviD movie to make TMPGenc accept it. This will almost certainly work....I've already posted how to do this here:

  3. Changing the priorites never worked for me.

    This did
    extract WAV using goldwave
reencode to MS MPEG-4 or DIVX using vdub, then framserve into TMPGEnc
