    Hi there,

I have a problem which I thought would have been answered several times in this forum but it wasn’t (or I couldn’t find it … yes, I used “search” !!! )
In several guides you can read that SVCD on a CD-R 700MB can contain up to 800MB.
I encoded my video to approx. fit :

(acc. to this, it should fit to the CD !?)

The resulting MPG(2) is then (as expected)

    778*1024 = 796.672 approx. right.
So this is 815…..(something)….. bytes :

As also shown by Nero :

with the Staus-Bar below 800MB (but over the 80min marker)

Corresponding to the guide https://www.videohelp.com/nerosvcd.htm ,
there esp. this pic : https://www.videohelp.com/images/nerosvcd2.png (there: file “idiot2.mpg”)
    this should fit to a 700MB CD-R !?!?
    But it doesn’t …
Nero first says, this is 779MB

then asks to overburn. When I confirm the size changes to 889MB (!?)

and burning fails (buffer underrun at the end).

    -----

VCDeasy too says, it can’t burn it because the size is to big, see here :

    (est. size becomes red)
    and CDRDAO fails to burn

I have “allow overburn” and “2336 bytes/sector in CD image” checked.

I also tried to “simple multiplex” as Treebeard suggested in the posting “nero won’t burn 780mb to 700mb disk” below, but it didn’t help. (the file size didn’t change at all)

Can anybody help and tell me where I make a mistake ?

  2. I stopped using nero a while ago but here goes.
You are using Nero to create a Data disk.
You need to make a video disk. Go thru the wizard and all the settings.

Yes, I do put 789Meg on a SVCD regularly.

  3. Hey Stefan67,

Watch out for the way the mpg was created. If you use TMPGEnc, look under the System tab in the Settings window. Make sure you select "MPEG-2 Super VideoCD (VBR)" and not "MPEG-2 Program(VBR)". If your mpg is made with the Super VideoCD setting, it will fit in NERO.

For now, you don't need to re-encode. Just open up 'MPEG Tools' in TMPGEnc (File menu) and do a 'simple multiplex' of the mpeg2 you made, but select the "MPEG-2 Super VideoCD" setting for the output.

    Hope that helps.
    Happy to be here.

  4. As above.

You need to make sure that your video clip is multiplexed correctly otherwise Nero and VCDEasy will "pad" the clip to fit the sector size -- leading to bloating of the filesize.

And yes, you can fit up to about 797 MB of user data on an 80min CD-R without overburning: https://www.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/135642.php
