What do you mean DVD2One won't show it? To select the input all you do is click the input button and work your way to the folder OSeX just created and double click it.

It's better if you use DVD Backup

I bet he didnt select DVD FOLDER as the output, and its doing the default of PROGRESSIVE STREAM.

You have to choose DVD FOLDER as the output type for OSeX rip to work.
    DVDBackup works just as well.

  6. Why is using DVDBackup better?
I had been using OSeX to rip to elemental streams but DVD2OneX wants decoded DVD folders. When I tried to use OSeX to do this on 'The Terminator' it crashed out. I downloaded DVDBackup and it just worked. DVDBackup is a lot simpler looking IMHO if you just want to create decoded VIDEO_TS folders.

  7. what do you do after dvd2one gives you the video_ts folder, i burnt it onto a dvd-r using toast but it cant be read by my dvd player, is there something im missing, or another way i can try???

  8. You know OSex crashes on me all the time now when I try to output to DVD folder. So I've been using DVDbackup. The only extra step is that I have to run Apple DVD player first. Wonder why OSex crashes making DVD folder. Has anyone experienced this also?

  9. OSeX might have been born before DVDs came with all sorts of other stuff loaded on them -- autorun.inf, JACKET_P folders, web links...

It often faints when it sees these extra files, but can be brought back to life by creating the new directories ahead of time, or just copying the DVD_ROM files over to your destination directory manually.

So, in THAT respect it's true that DVDBackup is easier to use if your source disk has these extra files. In many cases that program's extra step consists of opening the disk with DVDPlayer.

Six of one, half dozen of another.

[It's useful to explain why a program or process is preferred over another. There are a lot of new people coming to this forum for advice. There's a big difference between "I just happen to like this way better" and "doing it that way will create technical problems that you'll regret later..."]

I have never had it crash on me, but it does take a lot longer to make the dvd folder than dvd backup does. Thats why i use dvd backup.

To the person whose burn didnt work, what I would try doing is opening toast set to dvd burn then add your disk. Make sure the name is equivalent to the dvd you copied for format.

For example THE_GAME was my how my dvd mounted. So, I typed in THE_GAME as my disc name. Then.... Drag your VIDEO_TS folder into toast. Then add another empty folder called AUDIO_TS.

Having the proper disc name may or may not be so important, but the audio folder is probably why it didnt work out for you.

Burn. Hopefully this works. Some dvd players required this audio ts folder some dont.

    hope that helps you

IT WORKED?!? man that was fast!

  13. Several people are making the same mistake. Always place the VIDEO_TS folder in another folder having the DVD title (in CAPITALS). (For example "DVD_DISC".)Then drag that folder ("DVD_DISC") into Toast (sert for DVD). If you just drag the VIDEO_TS folder directly into the opened DVD burning window of Toast, then "VIDEO_TS" will become the title of your disk. It will burn but will not be playable on a commercial DVD player. See other posts on this.

Yea that was the problem with OSEx, I didn't have it set to DVD Folder.

I used DVD Backup, then ran that through DVD2one.

A couple of complaints, The DVD that I burn Won't play in digital format with my standalone DVD player. Original does. I find the picture grainy on my 52" TV. Is this normal or can I do something.?? Oh yea I tried redoing it in DVD2one with just DTS audio and I had no sound on the computer, So I highlighted AC3 6ch and DTS 6ch, it plays on the computer now, but will it play DTS if I burn it and put it in the standalone DVD player.

    Any info would be great,

    Thanks
P.S. I used DiscomVOBulatorPlus before and love the picture quality you get. The only problem is alot of DVD's need 2 blanks.

    UPDATE.
Fixed both things, I didn't have the receiver set right for DTS and a little fine tuning on the TV and all is well.

It is amazing how they can take a 7 or 8 gig DVD and put it in a 4.3 Blank DVD and get good quality.

Okay I did one DVD and it worked now I can't make any good DVD's that will play on the computer or DVD player.

1 Use DVD Backup to get the DVD on the computer
2 Use DVD2one, and sellect "MOVIE" select the Title and the Audio I want and save this to the harddrive as a TS_VIDEO folder.
3 Use toast 5.2, set it to DVD, drag the TS_VIDEO in to that, and burn, but it won't play. Tried making a folder with the name of the movie as suggested above, and drag the VIDEO_TS and a Blank AUDIO_TS in there, but it won't play.
What am I doing wrong, man I wasted 3 blanks and still can't figure this out.

    Any help, please.

    THANKS.

    newbie question:
I see that when I put a DVD movie disk into the computer drive, after it mounts on the desktop the icon is titled "DVD_DISC". When I go to process the disk and then burn a copy, am I required to maintain the "DVD_DISC" name for the folder that encloses the VIDEO_TS folder and later the burned name of the disk, or can I use the actual name of the movie (in all caps, of course"?

You can name it the name of the disk, no need to retain the same name as the original.

    Man, I can't believe how many people are having this problem. Same thing on every board I go to. I've found that the easiest way to explain it is;
    1) You are making a backup, therefore
    2) Your disc should look exactly like the original, except
    3) The original usually has numerous items at the root level besides the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders, however
    4) Your disc will only have the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders at the root level

The least confusing method is to make a Folder on you HD, name it the same as the original disc. Place the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders inside. Choose DVD in Toast, drag your Folder into the Toast DVD window, burn. I hope this helps.

I just thought I'd add that you don't have to burn a disc to check the DVD Structure. After you drag your folder to Toast, go to the File menu and select Save as Disc Image. If the structure is right, when you mount the Image, DVD Player should launch and you can make sure every-thing's a go before burning a disc. This might save a few DVDs.

Hey Tugboat, I've named my backups differently that the orignals and they work just fine. I don't think that it really matters.

Yep, I've renamed them myself without any problems. But, lets try not to confuse anyone. Some people are having enough trouble as it is

Thanks for the info, but I did that.

The movie I'm doing is KISS_OF_THE_DRAGON. When I open DVD2one it finds VIDEO_TS folder that I got from DVD Backup. I have to pick Title 5 as its the one that has 25 chapters and 1:38.08 of time, then it shows me the audio, I pick the first one, AC3 6ch, English, Normal. Could it be that I should pick the first 4 Titles to,??

I,m following your instructions but its a no go.
The VIDE_TS folder I get from DVD2one plays fine with apples DVd Player, before I use toast. Is there anyway to check it once I'm in toast before I burn as you can do with a disk image.

    Thanks for anymore info.

Nope, all you need is the one audio track, the ac3 6ch should be fine. See my above post for making a Toast Disc Image. Good Luck.

Not sure what the hell I was doing before,

    Thanks again.

  24. 1) After creating your new VIDEO_TS directory through whatever method (Sizzle, ffmpegX, DVD2OneX, DVD Studio Pro, etc.) you can use Apple's DVDPlayer to check the resulting files WITHOUT HAVING TO MAKE A DISK IMAGE. Save yourself the time!

Open DVDPlayer. Hit Command-O to get the OPEN dialog box. Find the VIDEO_TS folder that you want to look at. Select it. Depending on the files, you may need to hit the PLAY arrow key on DVDPlayer's control console. Control-I opens an additional information panel that can be useful for showing which audio or subtitle track is playing.

    2) You may change the name of the DVD Disc. Many commercial DVDs are simply named DVD_VIDEO, not the name of the movie. Your DVD Player will mostly not care what it's called. You can name your Star Wars disk SPIDERMAN, and it'll still play Star Wars.

Some commercial DVDs have names in lower case type, and with spaces. In general for greatest success burning discs ourselves, we all recommend using UPPER CASE TYPE and no spaces (underlines_work_well).

    I find if I put a "AUDIO_TS in the DVD'S folder it doesn't work.

What I do, Use DVD Backup, Use DVD2one, Make a Blank folder name it the same as the DVD movie, Put the VIDEO_TS folder"from DVD2one" in it, And burn it.

All the ones I've done have done, have NO, AUDIO_TS folder.

Same thing for me (no AUDIO_TS). I don't think the whole deal about some DVD players not working without the AUDIO_TS is wrong. Hardly any commercial DVDs have AUDIO_TS. Just my two cents...
