When i rip a musicdvd sound quality is more important to me then
videoquality. Is there a way to improve sound.
When i make a svcd with tempgenc audio is 224 k default .
is there a way to bypass this setting or is this a sort of svcd standard ?

I believe you can go as high at 384kbps and still keep it as a standard svcd, but it will take up more space. if the field is greyed out in tmpgenc just right click on the description of the field and unlock it.
I have also noted that it appears when you playback on a surround system encoding as dual channel seems to give better sound then stereo. It may just be me, but wife agreed as well.
