  1. Hello!

I am very new to all this, so forgive me if this is a stupid question.
I wanted to convert an asf video into avi and so I read the posts
from the forum and got the VirtualDub 1.3 program.

I try to open the asf file through the file menu, but it displays an error

    "Couldn't locate decompressor for format "WMV2" ( unknown )"

This asf file is played without any problems by Windows Media player...

    What could be wrong?
Did i miss some step? Or....?

Thank you very much for all your attention.

    Igor.

You need to be using Vdub, version 1.3c and below I believe.

If it is missing the wmv codec, I would recommend doing a search on google.com for wmv codec. Also, make sure that you have all win media codec installed, I'd guess 4-9 I think is out there.

Try the wmv first, thought and you should be all set based on the info you provided.

Also, make sure you have the old mpeg4 codec in there

You can download a WMV codec pack from M$ site. However, it's a one-way upgrade,a dn will break you DivX 3.1x codecs if you have them installed (re-install afterwards), there is a naming conflict there.

  5. I can't seem to find that codec anywhere. I did find 1.3c and it had a problem with the particular file I was trying to open....though it did recognize it.
