Am capturing from TV and VHS using the following PC:
HP Pavillion 762.uk:
AMD Athlon XP 2200 (~1.8GHz)
256MB RAM
80GB HDD (7200 rpm)
ATI AIW Radeon 7500
Windows XP
I normally use the TV app in MMC, but I recently used VirtualDub (as it seemed to cope better with a NTSC video I was capturing - using PAL60 mode).
Anyways I set up according to the guides in here (25fps, MJPEG Quality=20, CD Quality sound), but I seemed to be dropping quite a few frames, and the capturing frame rate was only 19fps (I had specified 25fps). The resulting capture is ok to watch (even when converted to VCD), I just wondered what performance I should be getting.
Also, the 1hr 45mins of vid took up a rather large 15GB's - any way to keep the size down?
Any help or comments appreciated,
NiVZ

u using morgan mjpeg codec? if you are I use these settings with Morgan MJPEG, I can get an hour and a half coming out at about 2.5gb. I know that its still quite big but it is a hell of a reduction from 15gb, I did get about 60 frames dropped though, not sure how to stop it from droppiong some many frames.

I would have thought losing just over 2 secs in an overall capture of 90 mins/5400 secs isn't a big problem at all.
I'd be interested to learn what settings you are using to achive a final output size of 2.5gb, or are you capturing for vcd?
To NiVz:
I'm using the same codec as you at quality 17 (Athlon XP2000+, 160gb Raid 0 (+ primary hdd of course!), 512 SDRam, ATI 64mb DDR ViVo and tend to average 1gb per 25 mins of captured footage. That would mean a comparable output size for a 105min movie of 4/4.5gb and I'm capturing to high quality mpeg2 dvd 720 x 576 with dvd quality sound.

I wasn't complaining that I had dropped so many frames, I was saying its a shame I couldn't stop that many frames from droppingI don't mind that many dropping because I don't notice it that much when viewing the outcome.
If you want to know what settings I'm using there is a link in my last post to a screenshot. I capture at 640x480 with vdubs deinterlace - blend fileds filter. -
Hi folks,
Thanks for the replies. Here's some further info I should have included:
I'm using the PicVideo MJPEG codec at Quality 20.
Resolution is 352x288.
FPS is 25.
I dropped a lot of frames - way more than what you guys have specified. I'd guess I was dropping 2-3 frames per second.
I've only used this to capture one video (and it was a problematic NTSC VHS - which my VCR converts to PAL60).
I'll maybe try something simpler and see what happens.
Thanks,
NiVZ. -

NiVZ,
why not get the Morgan MJPEG codec to capture with, this codec would mean less frames dropped than you are getting now, plus smaller file size. -
Just downloaded the 60-day trial. I'll give it a go later in the week.
Thanks,
