I'm working on getting some old betamax video into SVCD format for viewing on a DVD player. I'm using ffmpeg to convert QT movies (.mov) to MPG2s.
Questions from a novice:
Regarding Quick Time- I see there is a Mpeg2 add-on that sells for $19. Does the QT Pro upgrade ($29) allow you to view Mpeg2s? I believe the QT Pro upgrade allows you to create Mpeg2s?
ffmpeg seems to work well. If QT Pro gives you the same functionality for creating Mpeg2s, does either program have a substantial advantage over the other?
Regarding VCD Builder- I'm getting familiar with this program. When linking sequences, I don't understand using a numerical link versus a chapter link- what is the difference? Does VCD Builder present a menu when the SVCD is first started?
Finally, when putting together a SVCD, does a program like VCD Builder take up extra space on the CD? My impression is that I can just add up the the individual Mpeg2 file sizes to figure out how many will fit on a CD. Is this corrrect?
Thanks!

Something I overlooked, I don't know, something *not* in the plans....
