  1. Anyone know the advantages of the Canopus ADVC 100 over the ADVC 50 ? - I know it is physically different but to simply convert analogue to DV, will the 50 give the same quality output as the 100 ?

    thanks.

  2. I own the ADVC 50.

I think the qulity of the video is the same. But i have not tried.
At least canopus support told me that.

The only difference is that ADVC 100 is more expensive, standalone, has macrovision or something like that (it can copy dvd's) and it also has analog ouput.

The advc 50 can come with a docking bay wich i have. It fits right into the front of the pc for easy connecting and disconnecting cables.

When i installed it under win xp i did not need any drivers.
    Damn i love xp!

I can capture with pinnacle studio, dvio and so on..

I think there are some problems with 1 or both this units when running win xp SP1. But then there are some ppl claiming to have no problems at all with Service pack 1.

You have to have a firewire card to connect the advc to aswell.

    Hope this helps.

BTW, i am verry happy with this unit. I have tried many different capture solutions before, but i think this is the best investment i have ever done for my computer.

    Good Luck!

  3. I have the ADVC-100. Great device.
It is standalone and talks over firewire.
    It has Macrovision removal
It handles conversion both ways Analog->DV and DV->Analog
It has RCA composite and S-video connectors.

I have used mine with Ulead products, DVIO, and some applications I have built using the DirectX SDK.

The big selling points for me were Macrovision, portability, and quality.
I think that the 50 and the 100 are identical in quality, so it comes down to if having a standalone device is worth the extra $$$ to you.

    Good Luck!

    I own the ADVC-100...
Once thing I will give it kudos about is the audio-lock feature.
I have yet to loose sync when capturing analog no matter how horrible the source (old BetaMax tapes)...

I went with the 100 (instead of the 50) for the reason i_am_dave mentioned - stand alone...easily usable between my iMac and my PC

the macrovision removal is a definate plus!

Programs I use: Scenalyzer to Capture and Premier or VirtualDub depending on what I want to do with the source.

    Good luck
