  2. As long as you have the proper filters and decoders installed (mainly an MPEG2 decoder and VobSub) you should be able to use almost anything. I prefer Zoom Player since it provides alot of options.

  3. thanks...
what kind of filters\decoders do i need? (i want to play vcd and svcd in zoom player + subs)

  4. I would install an MPEG2 codec/filter (I use the Fraunhoffer one available at www.doom9.org) Vobsub, and perhaps ffdshow, even though this shouldn't be necessary I have found that it resolves alot of issues.

  5. I personally like BSPlayer a lot. Handles various types of subtitles very well (you do not need VobSub). Has some very nice features for improving image quality, resizing and the like. Strongly recommended.

  8. What happens when you try to play the SVCD? do you get sound or anything at all?

I know that these players work very well, it's just a matter of finding a working decoder/filter. There are a few free players developed specifically with MPEG2 viewing in mind that you might give a try. They are the Sasami Player (http://sasami2k.new21.net/index2.html) and the VideoLan, or VLC player (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/)

What I would try if these don't help is changing is the decoder/filter. The Fraunhoffer doesn't seem to work for some people. Elecard is shareware, but reliable and looks good. Anyone else know of any free MPEG2 decoders/filters? I have used the Fraunhoffer software in the past, but right now I use the Ligos decoder that was installed with Easy CD/DVD Creator 6 and have been very happy with it.

Let me know how it turns out,

  10. cool elecard worked (thanks so much)
now how do i add subs to zoom player

oh and another problem i just found, i can't "jump to" in the timeline at BSPlayer. it always plays from the start, even if the time is not 00:00. (for example it played the opening of some movie while showing the time 43:15)

  11. To add subs to Zoom Player, just download the latest version of VobSub available here: http://vobsub.edensrising.com/ just click on VobSub at the left, all you really need is DirectVobSub, but you may as well install the complete VobSub package.

The only problem now is that, as I mentioned, the Elecard software is shareware and the trial period will expire soon. After it expires, that little white symbol you see in the upper right hand corner during playback will start fluttering around the screen in an extremely irritating manner until you register and pay for the software.

I would suggest, if you don't want to pay for the Elecard Software, that you try out the other options I mentioned above.

    Good Luck,

    what about the other problem?

  13. Does it do this with every file or just one AVI? Unfortunately I don't know much about BSPlayer, I use Zoom Player as it has been more reliable for my configuration.

If it does it only with one file, that file can be fixed, let me know what the case is.

If it's an MPEG (again, make sure that it does this with every MPEG file rather than just the one, in which case it's just a problem with the file) that you can't "jump To" in, it is either a quirk with the player, the decoder (elecard) or a combination of the two. Try changing one or more of these variables and see if the problem goes away. I guess the easiest way would be to try a different player.
