I have a WinTV-GO-FM PCI card in my PC (XP 1800+), and I downloaded the trial versions of WinDVR and WinDVD Recorder. I wanted to try them out for capturing from my VCR to MPEG format, to eventually burn to VCD.

In both of these programs, I configured the format to be NTSC VCD. When I hit the record button, the video becomes black and it does not seem to record anything...the sound keeps coming, though. When I stop recording, the video comes back. The resulting MPEG file cannot be played in Windows Media Player.

All of the other formats I've tried -- NTSC DVD, NTSC SVCD, and PAL VCD -- are perfectly fine. When I configure the format to be one of those, hitting the record button does not result in a black video window (it just keeps showing the encoded output, as expected). I have actually been successful with the NTSC VCD format a couple of times, but cannot reproduce the behavior.

Any idea why the NTSC VCD format would not be working?

Thanks,
Rehan
