  1. Hey, i just bought a AIW 9700 pro, and i finally got it to accept audio. For some reason, with the program that came with it...Pinnacle...the sound is off when i try to capture vhs to a vcd. I was advised just to use ATI's MMC that came with it also. But i have look over this package...and all it is, is options....no capturing programs or anything. So i was wondering if someone could explain how to use it, or suggest another very basic easy to use program that i can simply capture VHS to a VCD. thanx!!

Hi I have that card as well as others. To capture with the ATI software, that is VHS to your hardrive. Open up the TV, TV should be running (this is default mode). Look at the oval blue ATI player. Top right next to speaker is an icon that looks like the end of a TV coxial cable. This changes the input between TV, Composite and S-Video. Plug your cables into the appropriate plugs on the purple block output connector. Make sure first that its plugged into the ATI card first. I would do this when the computer is off. Then turn back on. Don't use the red cable thats for other stuff. Just look at the foldout that came with the card to get the cables hooked up to your VCR. That is video (yellow) audio (red/white) Pop in a tape and you should see your movie on the ATI screen. Hit or click the icon that shows the movie camera and you should see a series of red dots in the player, you are recording. But before you do all of this click the little envelope at the bottom of ATI player which opens up TV setup. Click on personal video recorder then one touch record. Default file for your videos should be my documents/my videos. Or make it wherever you want your movie tot be stored. Hope this helps.

  4. ok......let me see if i can get this question out....without....un getting unlawful. ok im making a vcd copy for my own personal use of this VHS tape that has macrovision on it. i have a macro terminator....so it bypasses the macro....but for some reason the MMC TV software still detects it and wont let me make a personal copy for my own use. any suggestions?

  5. There is a tool that turns off macrovision detection in MMC. I think you can find it in the Tools section as part of MMC reg tool. Download the tool and look for the macrovision disabling progam that is separate from the reg tool. It worked beutifully for me.

  6. ok....i used that file you told me about.....thanx...much aprreciated......it is recording now.....hope it werks. Ok last question here...i have this macro terminator, when i use it, the top of the screen is all shifted....is there another device i could use that would be reasonably cheap and would not have this drawback to getting rid of the macrovision?

  7. I think now that you have run the macrovision tool you will no longer need your macrovision device.

There is a distortion at the top of the video signal that is caused by head switching but which is not seen on TV by design. It is just cropped off. You will see it on a computer monitor. Perhaps your macrovision device is changing the size of the output video a bit, causing the head switching distortion to show up.

The guide is the one in my signature. LS's guide for VHS->DVD.

It will show you how to optimally capture with ATI from VHS to DVD. It is step-by-step. Click it and read. It also has some minor info on VCD if you choose that instead of DVD.

I also suggest the ATI MMC 7.7 over anything older and also over the newer-and-not-better 8.1.

The program is really simple once you understand what the settings are for, and you may actually come to appreciate all the options as you learn more about digital video.
I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored.
