Hi ! My first is question is : is the a good guide that explains how to rip DVDs with vdub? I am trying to encode stargate sg-1 episodes to have them on my computer and portable computer instead of having the carry the box with me all the time. I saw some divx pro 5.03 rips and theyre nice.
However, one of my friend in EU encoded a few and the result is clean, very neat , not noisy at all and fluid.
I tried to encode one episode using DVD2AVI first, then using vdub with some filters (brightness, remove the noise, temporal smoother, etc...) but the result was absolutely disgusting. Someone told me it was because PAL sources were better than NTSC. The video was a little noisy, and each time a caracter moved, there were some glossy lines all over the damn image.
So:
1- Is there a good dvd ripping guide for div 5.03 with vdub?
2- Is it true that NTSC will never make clean encodes as the PAL sources ?
Thanks in advance
Tiger

If you want to encode to DivX/xvid the whole NTSC/PAL thing doesn't matter as you're only going to play them on your PC. If you're a newbie to DVD ripping/DivX encoding I would suggest you check out GordianKnot:
http://www.doom9.org/gknot-main3.htm
D/load the GKnot rip/software package. It contains all the programs needed to rip a DVD an encode it to DivX 5.0 Guides are also online at doom9.org
And yes, from a DVD ripped source you can make Divx files that look excellent. -
The reason why I asked for vdub is because gordianknot has very limited manual editing options ... I tried to use it but it gave me bad looking rips.
I didn't say that I needed to make it NTSC , I said that somone told me that PAL sources gave prettier encodes than NTSC encodes.
I may have made an error with DVD2AVI (we have to enale forced film right for ntsc ??)
aside from that virtual dub should work just fine ...
