Saw this in the Sunday ads this morning. Looks like the Sharp DVD recorder is finally here. I searched GoodGuys website, but had no luck finding it. They probably have not updated their site yet. But the good news is that they are offering 10% off on all purchases over $199 plus free shipping and no tax. Kewl

The price was $799.95 not the one you posted. And this machine does the same thing the rest of them do. Copy VHS tapes.

Well, that's one more DVD-R standalone recorder to ensure that DVD-R will remain (Samsung, Panasonic, Toshiba, Pioneer, Sony, and now Sharp). Atleast this one uses DVD-RW. Although I like DVD-RAM better than DVD-RW, I would also like to have DVD-RW.

I'm looking at the Sunday ad right now and it says $599.99. Also, what do you expect them to do? They are designed as a replacement to VCRs after all.. of course they will copy VHS tapes and they can also record shows for you just like a VCR.
I don't think DVD-R is going away anytime soon. I suspect both DVD+R and DVD-R will coexist for some time. Personally, I'd rather have either DVD+RW or DVD-RW instead of DVD-RAM. They are the closest thing to replacing VCRs. There's something about not being able to play the DVD-RAM in my standalone DVD player that puts me off. -
Sharp's standalone DVD recorder is now showing on GoodGuy's website. Here's the link: http://www.goodguys.com/adtemplate.asp?invky=100411

It seems it only records in SP and an extended 6 hour speed. Not as flexable as the Panasonic, but that DVD-RW thing...very interesting.
