Hi there,
I am new to this forum and would appreciate some imput.
For sometime I have been looking at the different systems to record and edit video footage and master it to dvdr. (which way do I go PC or MAC?)
I have been reluctant up until now due to all the problems I have heard with sound sync problems software problems etc, especially with some pc's.
After countless hours researching on the net everything is pointing to the EMAC SUPERDRIVE with the dvd burner. Apparently it's all set up to go (so I have been told) I have also asked many friends who have said great things about the MAC system (although none of them have one)
The biggest concern I have is all the recent reports I have heard about the new software problems with iLIFE (iMOVIE3, iDVD3 ect) with sound sync problems as well.
My main purpose is the record off DVDR (from a Panasonic E30 recorded disc, this machine I have access to) onto the superdrive, edit the footage then record it back to disc. At the moment I do not need to record from a dv camcorder. This may change further down the track.
At this stage I do not know what to do. Should I go down the MAC path or persist with a PC.
Any information on this would be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Bluey

You need to research your options for editing MPEG video very carefully. I think this is going to be the 'long pole' in your decision. The share/freeware options on the Mac are going to be EXTREMELY limited. Commercially, the only program I've heard about that will do this is PixeDV.
I think on a Mac, your best/cheapest approach would be to translate the MPEG-2 back to DV. You'd need the Quicktime MPEG-2 playback component (US$20) plus the ability to export to DV with Quicktime Pro (US$30). Once you get there, iMovie and iDVD can take over and make life easier.
From what I've heard, most MPEG editors for Windows are pretty buggy as well. But they're proabably cheaper.
Whatever you do, I wish you good luck! Please report back when you have a chance!!!
