  1. I am having problems transferring my recorded video to my PC for editing. My recorder creates a video_ts folder as well as a video_rm folder. I put it in my dvd drive in my system then In "my computer" it shows 2.7GB in properties. however if I "open it' and click on the properties for the contents and it only shows .99GB this has been my main stumbling block. I can only watch 28 min worth through my PC or likewise import only that much to an editing prog. I have tried using dvd decrypyer as suggested in this forum but did not work it created a full image but still would only play part of the whole movie 28 min or .99gb
the recorder is an aspire digital and recordes to dvd+r
if any one could help it would be great
I also tried tmpg express and author with no results
another one that I thought would work was IMTOO dvd ripper but it only allows 5 min in it's trial and that is not enough to justify paying for it if it will not work thnx

Mine is a Philips 75 DVD Recorder , I author through Tmpgenc DVD Author which works great and allows me to cut out adverts or whatever , if I wish to copy it to disk so I can record back onto it , I use DVD Decrypter and that works fine (it also dumps all VOBS , even edited out bits onto my HD) , there is Smartripper which I used once to dump the VOBs across .
I seem to recall problems with older versions of TMPGenc DVD Author (with AC3 edited sound at least) , do u have the latest version of it and of DVD Decrypter ? Will your PCs DVD Drive allow you to copy other full DVDs across to your HD ? Are you using the same disc for all of your trials or experimenting on just one (possible error on disc) ? Have you tried to see if a friends PC will copy them across ?
For a free program to check your VOBs - VirtualDub Mpg2 , I use it for various things , checking VOBs being one of them .

  5. i believe the prob is that it is recorded in UDF format and either my drive or XP does not like it

  6. I have seen DVDdecrypter work on some +RW disks and not on others. I don't see what the problem is. They all have the same format, VIDEO_TS and VIDEO_RM folders. Weird!

I was searching for info on my new DVD Writer when I saw a discussion about this topic of certain dvd recorders format not copying to hd , but as I thought the topic had fallen flat on its arse I didnt bother to bookmark it , it mentioned in it some software that would work - the answer is out there somewhere though .

DVDDecrypter works fine on my Philips DVDR985 recorder. I find that I sometimes have to "protect" a +RW disc to get it to react correctly on my computer. For editing purposes (and ripping to the HD) I normally set "File Splitting NONE" in DVDDecrypter.
I also demux the audio and video if I plan on using TDA ....that seems to cure the problems I've come across.

  9. what do you mean by "protect"?

I believe there are different versions of udf that is why some work and some do not
if I use a dvdr seems to work but not rw, kind of a kick in the pants cause it costs me a disk to get it to hard drive

I think you are reading too much into the "udf" thing myself. What make and model DVD Recorder are you using?

To quote myself above , tried those yet ? your dvd drive might be stuffed , these steps are basic fault finding (especially the first) without feedback you`re making it hard work .

There is a firmware update for your recorder:
    http://www.aspiredigital.com/newwebsite/product_site/dvd/ad_8091dvd_update.htm

It does not mention that this firmware will fix a problem related to what you seem to be having but it might be worth a try.
Also you may want to scour your manual and menu options on your recorder for a compatibility option similar to the "protect" option built into my recorder.
The wording will probably be different though.
