  1. Hello,

I have an XVid video file that plays fine on my computer but will not play the video on my Oppo DVD player. The audio plays fine. I assume it has something to do with the fourcc data, but don't really know what that is nor how to change it for proper playback. I would prefer to change whatever needs to be changed without re-encoding the file. Can anyone help me with this?
Here is the GSpot info for the file in question:

    File Length Correct
    DivX Style "packed bitstream" AVI
    OpenDML (AVI v2.0)
    Interleave: 1 vid frame (42 ms), preload=512
    Audio frames: Split across interleaves
    Video: 1.01 GB (73.93%)
    Audio: 356 MB (25.46%)
    AVI Overhead: 8.55 MB (0.61%)
    [JUNK] VirtualDub build 24463/release
    [ISFT] AVI-Mux GUI 1.17.6, May 28 2006 15:53:35
    [USER] DivX999b000p
    [USER] XviD0035

I hope this is enough information to help fix this file as I do not know how to get a photo of GSpot and post it here.
    Thanks,
    Mark

  2. I don't know exactly what the Oppo's limitations are but packed bitstream could be a problem. The other things you'll need to look for are GMC, QPEL, large frame sizes (over 720x576), max consecutive b frames, etc. Recent versions of GSpot shows these things.

The fourcc is a four letter code that identifies the codec used. If GSpot identifies the codec as Xvid it's because the fourcc is "XVID".

Jagabo is correct. You can try using MPEG4Modifier (it's free) to unpack your bit stream. It won't re-encode the video to unpack it, so there is no quality loss. If that doesn't fix the problem, I'd look for the other things he mentioned. Unfortunately if you have any of them, they require re-encoding to remove, which means you'll probably have some quality loss. I don't keep up a lot with Divx/Xvid, but when people talk about fourcc I think they are talking about packed bit stream.

Note that almost nothing on the market can play back Divx/Xvid at resolutions greater than 720x576 and I know for a fact that no Oppo players can do so. If you have a high def sized Xvid file and neglected to tell us that, that is definitely your problem. No DVD player that I know of that supports Divx/Xvid can play GMC with more than 1 warp point. Almost everything encoded with GMC uses 3 warp points. Anyway, looking at Gspot for these things will help.

ALT + Print Screen will capture the upper most window being displayed on your screen. Then you can just paste into MS paint (or whatever other graphics software you may have installed) and save as a jpeg. Then just upload the jpeg.
