JVC HR-DVS2u vs HR-S9800u

I currently have a low hours S9800 vcr which has the dreaded SLP tape crease problem. Rather then get it repaired, would it be beneficial for me to pick up a used DVS2u? Would I be losing any features going to the DVS deck over the 9800? And does the DVS deck use the same crappy transport the 9800 does? I'd like to get a DVS deck for the extra mini dv capability, but won't give up my 9800 unless the DVS has all the same features without the tape crease problem. Any comments?

Same #%@#, different case. SVHS transport is similar if not identical. The additional MiniDV deck is an even bigger horror show than the SVHS.

Only way to get the JVC TBC/DNR without the lousy transport is to buy one of the newer, better-designed DVHS models like SR-VD400US, which were known to be more reliable and compatible with SLP tapes.

You might also consider an HR-S9500U,it was the last series from JVC before they moved production to Communist China. I still own two.
