  1. When I play a video (.vob) in VLC, every time I get to a chapter break, the movie glitches.
What can be done to fix this?

    Thank you,
    Chris.

Don't play VOBs. Either play the VOBs by using the IFO file (which is how you are meant to do it), or extract the mpeg from the VOBs and play that instead.

  3. OK, on this movie, there is 6 IFO files. Which of these is "the IFO file"?

  5. OK, thank you. Still don't know how to play these files in VLC without glitches.

Instead of watching a DVD in the DVD/RW Drive, I want to put it on the HD and watch it from there.

I open VLC, open the folder. I Ctrl + A, highlight everything, play. The movie plays but has glitches at each chapter.

How are you supposed to play a movie?

    Thank you for replies,
    Chris.

You should only have to open this file : VIDEO_TS.IFO and take it from there.

Personally have not seen this behaviour from VLC, although the very latest version is doing some funky things.

You might also try The KM Player, or Media Player Classic Home Cinema. If you still get the same problem then you either have a system problem, or the disc was not ripped properly.

Which does lead to the question - how did you rip it ?

  7. VLC has always done this for years, with different versions, and all discs. I ripped this time with DVDFab HD Decrypter. video_ts.ifo lasts for about 1 second, then ends. Nothing on the screen, just the slider goes for a second then stops.

  8. Just tried it in Realalternative (MPC). The video_ts.ifo plays good.

I was using VLC because it was so highly recommended on the forums. Doesn't even work right. Never has for me.

Thanks for the suggestions, I forgot I had media player classic.

  9. I have my TV hooked up to my computer as a second monitor. When I slide MPC over to see it on my TV, the screen (in the player) goes blank.
Why does it do that? How can I fix it?

    Thank you,
    Chris.

Change the renderer in MPC until you find one that works.

  12. Pretty good guns1inger, it works now.
Thank you to jagabo for helping me get to it. Thank you to all the helpers.

  13. Which output driver did you end up using? And which wasn't working originally?

  14. Can't remember what one I was using. However it came was the one tho.
What worked was, "Default". I read more and it was suggested for better quality to use VMR 9 (renderless). That worked also.

Thank you for asking. It's good for others who read this in the future. Its always good to post back for the benefit of others. Thanks for the reminder.
    Chris.
