I've got kind of a nuisance problem. My PC screen flashes to black for about 1 second every 5 or 10 minutes or so. Then it snaps back. Not enough to prevent me from working, but pesty enough that I'd like to get it fixed. It doesn't happen though, when I am watching a video with my VLC Media Player. But any other time it does. It only lasts for a second, so I don't know what's going on. All of my cables are secure and tight. I'm sure it's some kind of hardware or software misconfiguration. Anybody have any suggestions???

I had that same problem just a few weeks ago. Turned out the monitor was going bad. Got a new monitor and the problem stopped.

  3. A similar thing happened to me last year... just after I'd updated my Intel graphics driver (as well as flashing black every so often, it was doing all sorts of other crazy psychedelic stuff too - it was like the northern lights as times).
I rolled back to previous driver and problem was fixed.
