Before I plunck down $70 of my money for version 8 upgrade, can anyone tell me when version 9 is coming out.

I paid good money for version 7 a while ago when all I had was a DV camera. Now that I have a DVD burner and need MPEG2 compatibility I want version 8...but not if version 9 is around the corner.

I like v7 overall and from what I've seen about v8, its the same, except with the above noted differences.

    So any ideas??? a month...3...6???

They announced the v8 debut 6/25/2002: here is the link if interested:

Well I know SOMEONE out there is working on version 9. I also know that even if I wait for v9, v10 will be right around the corner.

The same thing happened to me with EZ CD creator. 1 month after I bought version 4...version 5 came out. That pissed me off so much I bought Nero and never looked back. (Nero worked out better anyway)

It sems unfair to ask the public to pay $70 for an upgrade just to get DVD menus and MPEG compatibility for a program I already paid $120 for.

Anyway, If someone has a friend that works at Pinnacle, could you ask them???

  5. You are right $70 for upgrade from 7 to 8 is too much. I wish they would have better deal. And I went through one upgrade before. From Studio DV to Studio 8.

Have a look around the web. I bought version 8 a couple of weeks ago from buy.com for $19.99 after $50 rebate. Check them as the rebate form says it is valid until 30 april. Also check amazon.com

  7. I agree with ASB, Throb. Buy it real cheap after the rebate and then the investment won't be too big. I paid like $40-$50 for the Studio 7 "member special upgrade price" and then noticed that I could've waited a few months and get it much cheaper.

I learned my lesson and bought Studio 8 for $20 after mail-in-rebate. I never sent the rebate form nor cut the UPC from the box because Studio 8 was so buggy that I ended up returning it (long story as far as how I returned it).

I heard the most recent patch is making Studio 8 work much better. I will buy Studio 8 again after I move to a new home so I can get the rebate at my new home.

The Pinnacle Systems Webboard mentions no plans for Studio 9 this year, but of course it's logical to assume they are working on making Studio better.

In any case, the trick is to buy it cheap so you are not at a big loss if the next version shows up 2 months later or whatever.
