  1. Unusual problem whenever I back up any movies they always play on my standalone and DVD Writer drive but not on my DVD Rom drive. whenever I try my DVD Rom Drive the error I usually get is Windows does'nt recognise this format. After checking the properties on both drives the DVDWriter shows file system CDFS Where as the DVD Rom shows file system unknown. Anybody any idea why this is happening ?.

  3. Agreed - same problem with my Matsushita SR-8586. No good with DVD-R(W)'s but an excellent drive in other respects.

Just replaced it with a Lite-on (see other posts) and it works perfectly. Time for you to invest £30 on a new drive, I think.

When I make pure UDF (not the ISO/UDF) discs, the Windows OS cannot read UDF. It has to have ISO. At least to read the disc contents. Try to open your DVD player software first, then put in the disc. Works for me. It's now looking for a movie, not a DVD data disc with files. My guess is that your auto-run is not setup properly for the DVD-ROM drive.

Just a guess. Your problem description is a bit vague.

@txhpharoah, once again, did you even read what patsym1 wrote? Unreal, because it was pretty short and in that little paragraph, they SPECIFICALLY stated that windows gives them an error for a format windows doesn't recognize. That has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with "autorun" being configured properly. Had they said they put the disk in and nothing happens, that's another story.

Stick to your unlicensed paralegal work, and leave the DVD Backup information to people who can offer a decent response.

@patsym1, it may NOT be necessary for you just to upgrade your DVD ROM so quickly. If it is OS error such as this, chances are you will have the same issue changing your DVD ROM. You do need to supply more pertinent information though. What methods do you use to author, compress/transcode or reencode, and what software do you use to burn?

  7. In normal circumstances I would use Nero (Latsest Version) I have tried all the various combinations but mostly UDF/ISO. Dvd Decryptor to rip.
I have also Tried Copy2DVD, Recordnow Max to burn.

Using this Combination always works on my Standalone.

    1. DVD Decrypter
    2. DVD2One or DVD95Copy
    3. Nero or Recordnow Max

I thought maybe it was the Media (Blank DVD Disks) I was using but its not apparently. I have had the DVD Rom drive 2 years now so maybe it is over the hill.

  8. The DVD ROM isn't giving you this error, it's the operating system. I was trying to find out what type of "file" or "files" you were burning onto the disks. It also has zilch to do with the disks you are using becase again, it isn't like your system is just hanging and nothing is happening, you are getting a legitimate error. I received errors just like that when I was making SVCD's.

Sometimes I didn't burn them in the "compatible" format, and I think had some "ATI" files my ATI card created and windows gave me those errors. There were ways around them, but go ahead and get yourself a new DVD ROM.

    Download VideoLan here.

This player can play almost any types of media files. It can also play Region 1 discs on a region 2 drive.

All you have to do is open the player, click on file>Open disc. It will then ask you which drive the disc is in and whether you want the disc's menu to be displayed.

Seriously, this player is brilliant (although I'm not sure whether it'll solve your problem patsym1, but it's worth a try), and it's free!

Don't know much about computers do you?

If autorun for the DVD-ROM drive is not setup to launch a DVD Player program, it will look for data, and errors like this will show up when you double-click on the drive letter or open the DVD player afer the fact. Have autorun set to open and read with a DVD player program, and the problem should be solved. But as I already said, rather than mess with autorun settings, just open the DVDplayer program BEFORE you put in the UDF-only therefore unreadable-by-Windows-OS disc.
I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored.
