A friend of mine gave me a dvdr he bought off the streets, it was a bootleg of some crappy movie. When I looked at the dvd+r it had a 2 hr movie on it, yet it only took up maybe one third of the disk size.
How do they do this? I have a few mpeg movies I'd like to put onto a dvdr this way, how could I do this. I saw the svcd way using ulead studio, but I'd like to do it the way they did the boodleg dvdr. I don't have ulead anyway, I use nero, is there a way to do it with that?
Thanks,
Jm

Encode at a low bitrate, use VCD or CVD resolution for bitrates lower than about 3500kbits
-
I don't think thats it, it looks like the file was downloaded like a mpg or avi and put directly onto dvdr, sorta like making a mp3 cd that's like 10hrs of music on an 80min cdr.

DVDs are mpeg......\
They can be any variety of formats
Mpeg2 or Mpeg1
720 x 480, or 352 x 480, or 352 x 240
Bitrates from 500 to 9800 kbps.
Just crank the bitrate down, as bugster said, and you can fit 2 or 3 movies on 1 DVD (course, they don't look as good as the original that way, but sometimes that's OK)..... -
It's more than likely a VCD burnt to DVD+/-R.
I've just burnt 5 Adult VCD's to DVD-R, some of them are nearly 2 hours long.I Have Always Been Here

Marvel, is there a guide to do that?
I have some adult vcds that I want to put onto DVD, is it easy ? -
Yeah, I'd like to know how to do that, can you use Nero? I tried to use the guide for Ulead dvd workshop, but it took 10 hours just to get 25% converted -- the guide said it should only be converting the audio, I think I was somehow doing the video too.

Either burn it as a ISO (which i do most the time since i own a DVD Player that can read ISO disc) or just author the dvd using VCD standards cause 352X240 is a dvd res all you have to do is demux the files and convert the 44.1 audio to 48.0 very basic and very easy.

After many trials and error's using most of the DVD Authoring Software i found by far that DVD Maestro is the best.
Some preperation is needed first.....
1. Demultiplex your VCD using TMPEGnc into .m1v only, don't need the mp2 file here.
2. Still using Tmpegnc goto File/Output To File and select .wav file, remember to keep both .m1v and .wav the same name.
3. Convert that extracted .wav to an .AC3 keeping the same filename as your .m1v using AC3 Machine from www.doom9.org. in that set the ssrc sampling rate to 48000hz and the AC3 encoding to 224kbps there's a guide at doom9's site that will tell your how to use it.
3. (FOR THIS STEP I SUGGEST YOU FOLLOW ANY OF THE GUIDES ON USING DVD MAESTRO).
Next startup DVD Maestro and import your .m1vs and ac3 audio into it create as many movies in Maestro that you will need, again there are guides telling you how to do it, also use the guides for syncing the audio to the video, you can also create chapters manualy if your want by left clicking on the chapter window at 2 or 3 mintue breaks then hitting ok.
4. Now i have mine setup for to play 1 after the other, but for this you will have to follow a guide/s on how to do that if you have created chapters.
5. If you haven't created chapters then just make sure that the VCD's are in the order you want to be and they will still play 1 after the other, but without being able to use the chapterskip forward and backwards.I Have Always Been Here
