  1. I don't know why all Xvid's played on my PC now are out of sync. The audio is leading the video by about 500ms. Could it be a codec problem? It is a little suspicious that it happens with all XviD's now.

  2. Since this is only happennning with XviD files, I would suggest installing a different distribution of the Xvid codec. I generally prefer Koepi's codec among the others available here:

This may fix the problem, but if it doesn't you can try a different decoder, I use ffdshow, which incldes an MPEG4 decoder that has worked like a charm for everything I have thrown at it, so you might try this:

Let me know if it worked,

  3. Installing the XviD codec you suggested didn't work. Using ffdshow did however. At least it was working as soon as I installed it. I was called away by a nagging wife and when I came back an hour later, the Xvids were out of sync again. Maybe I was delusional the first time I looked at it. Are there any special way to configure ffdshow?

  4. Just open the ffdshow configuration utility through the Windows Start Menu, click on "codecs" at the top of the menu, and under "supported codecs," make sure that "XVID" is checked and "Use XVID" is unchecked, then hit apply. This should ensure that the ffdshow decoder is being used rather than XviD.

  7. Excellent question. Caused me to retry them all. Before trying Prosperos ideas, the problem was there in both Media Player and Power DVD. I hadn't gone back to test PowerDVD after his fixes. It seems to play fine in PowerDVD now.

    Thanks, Mark
