  1. I get the following error while extracting audio using virtual dub folowing theinstructions in the guides (audio/full processing mode, audio/no compression, audio conversion/44100Hz) and wanting to save the wav.

''The requested audio compression is not compatible with the input format. Check that the sampling rate and channel count of the input match those of the requested format''.

I have extracted and re-encoded quite a number of files succesfully, have not seen this error. I could use your help.

When looking in Vdub at file information I get the following info:

    Sample precision is 0 bit
    Compression is unkown (tag 0055)
    Channels: 2(stereo)
    Sampling Rate 44100 Hz

    Thank you.

You need a codec (probably AC3), get Gspot from the Tools section. Use it to test your file then get the codec. 8)

  3. Thank you for the answer.

Shouldn't I install this codec first and then extract the audio using virtual dub following the instructions in the guides (audio/full processing mode, audio/no compression, audio conversion/44100Hz) and save the wav.

Saving the wave ended in error last time without the mentioned codec.

Yes, install the codec first, then you can extract the audio. Vdub won't convert AC3 audio so you can follow this guide for processing the audio: https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=140703

Another way is to use Goldwave, load your Avi, select save, wav created.
