  1. I'm trying to back up a dvd on my hard drive and I got an error message saying that smart ripper couldn't read an index block. The dvd is old and has some minor scratches on it. Is there anything I can do to remedy this? Will repairing the dvd with one of those fix kits do the trick or is there a more complicated process involved? Any help in this matter will be greatly appreciated.

Tampen some toilet paper and a little toothpaste. The more water the better. Rub the disc in circlular motions. Buff with a new tissue or toilet paper. Sometimes you need to repeat this process a few times sometimes three. But it works. I have buffed out deep scratches this way and got the disk to read with no problems. May sound wierd but we sent a man to the moon in an aluminum foil wrapped space ship and he survived. Good luck!
