  1. Hey thanks for checking my post,

How would I convert a downloaded RM or ASF file to MPG without losing sync? I can get both formats to AVI, but they always end up out of sync. The frame rates range from 15-25 and the audio is 22kHz/mono/16bit. Is there some way I can modify the framerate so that the audio and video stay in sync? Or should I try programs other than Blaze Media Pro/WinMPG Convert (for ASF) and Tinra RM Converter (for RM)?

  2. I've done conversions like what you're trying to do with Camtasia Studio along with a good MJPEG or divx codec.
    http://www.techsmith.com/products/studio/default.asp

Camtasia does a screen capture of any window or your desktop and works great for something like Realmedia because you can set it to record just the video part within a player (for instance). You can also set the framerate of the capture within the capture options.

The tricky part is the audio. That requires a short cable and figuring out the levels etc... Since Camtasia only records from the microphone input on your soundcard, you need to run a stereo mini cable from the speaker output on your soundcard to your mic input.

You can't capture directly to MPEG from what I remember, but it's easier to edit and work with the video if you capture to MJPEG or DivX 3.11 first. Edit the video in Virtualdub and then encode it to MPEG using TMPGE.

  3. Cool man, thanks for the help. I may give that a try if this EO-Video produces out of sync videos. Have you used that program before? And were the videos out of sync after they were converted?

  4. this should probaly be posted in the newbie converstion section.
you should probaly use a better source that the 15 frames to convert to mpg if quality is important.
you could use http://www.tmpgenc.net/e_main.html and download the trial version. if your starting out then you can use the templates for conversion.
minus - it cost a few $$ to keep the mpg2 feature and its a tad slow
plus - great produce, concistant results, easy to use

  6. I've used TMPGEnc before, but I've been having problems with it lately (sync). So I was looking for another program that would work. I tried out EO Video and it works perfectly, and I can go straight from RM or ASF to MPEG2 which kicks! Thanks for the help/criticism.

I have read your "guide" and it didn't say anything specific about synchronization. That's what I have been doing (with the newest version of TMPEnc) but I still get sync errors.
