I'm a newbie at all of this, so sorry if this is very simple to fix or if it's been answered before.

When I play PAL VCDs that I've authored on my standalone DVD player, the picture is shifted about 15 pixels to the left. I know this because credits are futher to the left of the picture than the right, and items in menus that should be centered are futher to the left of the picture. This doesn't happen with DVDs though.

    Thanx in advance.

Are you sure this is only happening on the left and not on all sides? All tv's, that I know of, have what is called overscanning. The outer edges of the picture on all sides are cut off and the amount of overscan is usually right around 12-16 pixels.

If the picture is definitely shifted than double check to ensure that your dvd player is set to pal playback mode.

Also make sure you encoded with the 4:3 aspect ratio.

Yea, it's not overscanning. My TV does overscan alot, but this is different. The picture is shifted to the left, not just cut more on the left. I encode at 352x288 (correct right?).

Doesn't anyone have an answer for this? I'm sure others are having the same problem.

  5. I asked this question a couple of weeks ago and the answer seems to be that if your DVD player is set to RGB output, the "to the side" problem will occur.

Within the DVD player settings, set the output to Video (or what other outputs you have other than RGB) and the problem should go away. It worked for me and it didn't cause any difference to the picture quality.

    Hope that this helps.

Some players just do that on some discs. Look at it in another player of another brand.
I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored.

I have a Toshiba SD220E and I think it is a superb player and so do many of the users of this forum (have a look at the DVD players page). But then nothing is perfect.
