  1. Im trying to capture some old headbangers ball episodes from vhs to dvd mpegs but they allways look like total crap. Edges of objects are jagged. See these screenshots to see what i mean..

    Its not an interlacing problem that im pretty sure of. I capture them from a Panasonic pv-s7670 4head hifi through my ati aiw radeon 32mb ddr using svideo connection with vdub @ 29.97, 720x480, yuy2, huffy compression, and feed this avs into cce set to 2pass(3)vbr 2000/5000/9000, only add seq header checked.

    LoadPlugin("D:\_Capturing and Encoding\DecombLegacy.dll")
    LoadPlugin("D:\_Capturing and Encoding\mpeg2dec.dll")
    AVIsource("D:\hbb.avi")
    SeparateFields()
    #CropBottom(10)
    #AddBorders(0,5,0,5)
    TemporalSmoother(2,3)
    Weave()
    ResampleAudio(44100)
    Trim(0,147819) ++ Trim(147900,179267) ++ Trim(180806,208088).

    These tapes just will not capture without edges of everything turning extremely jagged. The tapes are SP and were recorded with a 1990 or something 4head hifi (very expensive sucker back then) and when viewed on the tv it is as clear as day, very nice and clean picture. When viewed through my allinwonder radeon though it is all jagged and very ugly. Any ideas?

  2. Is the jagged stuff showing up when you burn it and play it back on your TV? Mine does that too, but once I burn it it's fine.

  3. Yup. It looks way worse on dvd then just playing the tape from the vcr straight to the tv. I suppose it has something to do with the way that the aiw card is decoding the incoming video signal (i guess). Someone on another forum told me that i should get an svideo signal booster but it also does the same thing when viewed in compisite and even tv tuner mode.

  4. Maybe the next step is trying different capturing programs?

    You can download a trial copy of Ulead's stuff and give it a shot to see if it's software or hardware related.
