  1. CAN ANYONE HELP ME PLEASE. OBVIOUSLY I'M NEW TO THIS.
I AM USING A PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-105, DVD DECRYPTER, DVD2ONE, RECORDNOW DX AND PRINCO DVD-R RECORDABLE DISCS.

I CAN DO ALL THE RIPPING, COMPRESSING ETC, BUT THE BURNING IS A PROBLEM.

I END UP WITH A FOLDER (AFTER DVD2ONE) WHICH CONTAINS 9 FILES
    VTS_01_1
    VTS_01_2
    VTS_01_3
    VTS_01_4
    VTS_01_5
    VIDEO_TS.BUP
    VIDEO_TS.IFO
    VTS_01_0.BUP
    VTS_01_0.IFO

WHICH OF THESE FILES DO I NEED TO BURN TO DISC?

IN RECORDNOW DX - IN THE OPTIONS FOR RECORDING A DATA/DVD DISC, IT ASKS DVD OPTIONS, WHICH I ASSUME NEEDS TO BE "TRACK AT ONE, CLOSED" (FOR IT TO WORK IN A NORMAL DVD PLAYER).
HOWEVER THE OTHER OPTION IS FILE SYSTEM TYPE WITH THESE TWO OPTIONS -

UDF with joliet - up to 106 in length, any char.,plus joliet plus 8+3 tree (bridge)

    OR

UDF up to 128 in filename length, any char plus joliet plus 8+3 tree (bridge)

WHICH OF THOSE DO I NEED, AND WHAT DO THEY MEAN ? ALL I WANT TO DO IS BE ABLE TO PLAY THEM ON A STANDALONE / NORMAL DVD PLAYER !!

HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED - CHEERS

  2. Burn all the files.
You want to close the disc for it to play in a stand alone.
I believe you want to burn "UDF with joliet"

Now not all stand alone players will play DVD-R or DVD+R media so if you will list your DVD player make and model I will look it up for you and see what media it supports. Also until you are sure of your results I suggest you do your burns with DVD-RW or DVD+RW media so you don't make a table full of coasters.

Hmm I should add you need to put all the files into a VIDEO_TS folder (just create the folder on your hard drive) and then burn that folder.

  3. CHEERS.

I'M NOT EXPECTING MY DVD PLAYER TO PLAY MY DISCS BECAUSE IT IS PROBABLY THE CHEAPEST, CRAPPEST ONE ON THE MARKET (GRUNDIG GDV 620 HT) - I AM USING A FRIENDS STANDALONE PLAYER AS MY CONTROL (LG) AND MY OTHER COMPUTER WHICH HAS A PIONEER DVD-ROM DVD 113.

I ALREADY HAVE A VIDEO_TS FILE WHICH I CREATED BUT I HAVE BEEN PUTTING THE FILES IN INDIVIDUALLY AS OPPOSED TO PUTTING THE FILE INTO BURN WHOLE.

I HAVE DEFINITELY PUT WHAT I WANT ONTO THE DISCS BECAUSE THEY WORK WITH POWER DVD ON MY PC BUT THAT'S THE ONLY PLACE THAT THEY PLAY.

AS FAR AS A TABLE FULL OF COASTERS GOES - THE WORDS "HORSE" AND "STABLE DOOR" SPRING TO MIND !!

  4. Well it doesn't look good for your stand alone player as you can see and read here.

  5. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP.

I SHALL TRY AGAIN BURNING THE FOLDER.

MAYBE I'LL TRAWL THE NET FOR A NEW DVD PLAYER WHILE I'M WAITING FOR IT TO COOK !!

  6. You will need to burn all the files at once and close the disc if your burner is a DVD-R. I think DVD+R media doesn't need to be closed by design.

In making backups I have had the same problem you have.

AND I USED TO SHOUT ABOUT IT TOO!

my solution..Using NERO in DVD VIDEO Mode instead of the UDF options that nero also offers

Everytime I would author a new disc. Record Now would burn it to play in settops no probs...
but with commercial rips-like your prob-..RNDx didn't perform so that the resultant disc played in the settop -it was good in pc only- repeated use of NERO shows it performs an extra and necessary function when burning -it sorts the files better than record now- if you didn't make 'em yourself. That is, for your own authored projects. RECORD NOW always makes a settop player..but NERO sorts those commercial assets for maximum playability (and gives you an error message when it finds non-compliant files-nice!)

Do not use NERO below 5.5.17

Not free but here are some possible options:
Check, you may have gotten an older version with a burner last year..it would still have been an updateable version 5.0 or such software and update it free
Purchase a new CD/DVD burner that it comes bundled with
Use the DEMO (full working) and re format every thirty days to get a new working DEMO!
