test capture to cd-rw

if i do a test capture then burn say five minutes to a cd-rw. is this possible and will i be able to view on a vcr or dvd player to check out quality on tv.

To DVD player, yes, if you comress it to MPEG1 or 2, and the player
can play MPEGs from a directory, or you master the disc as a VCD/SVCD.

could you please explain about mpeg layer in more detail or point me in the right direction for a tutorial.

I have a jvc xv-523gd player, the manual says it will play dvd, vcd, svcd, cd-r,cd-rw, but not dvd-rom,dvd-r etc.
