I have extracted a music video from a DVD. I don't want to wast a DVD-R for 390 MB so I thought about burning the highest quality that I could using a CD-R. What would be the fastest and/or best method to do this? I have it in a DVD folder now and it plays with Apple's DVD player but I want to be able to play it on my stand alone DVD player. Thanks.

A couple of things come to mind for this situaion.
    1. its sometimes difficult to achieve a synced result (see my posting on how i cant ever get the m2v (video) and .mp2 (audio) to be the same length [no matter if its just a 5 min chapter rip or an entire movie rip]

    2. your stand alone dvd player will have limits on what vcd or svcd quality it can handle for playback. To find out, look up your player in the DVD PLAYER list at the home page of dvdrhelp.com
for example, mine is Apex 5131. VCD max is 5000k/sec SVCD max is 5000k/sec. Therefore thats the max bitrate my player can handle, and the max i can encode them at. A normal dvd will fit to 2 or 3 disks at 2500 and look great (comparable to dvd on normal tv).

with that said, you need to run the .vob though Missing Mpeg Tools mpeg2enc and get your .m2v set to your desired resolution.

then run the .vob through the mp2enc to obtain your .mp2

this is the easy part. each will play (m2v in video lan) and .mp2 in quicktime and look and sound wonderful!

now! getting them synced seem to be the kicker. Some people get lucky and doing the MUX with Missing MPEG tools lines it right up
(perhaps since yours is just a small music video it will work)

where as for me, i can never seem to get them to sync properly. Im still working on the solution for this

i suggest getting the m2v and .mp2 out of the .vob with process above.

make sure to note if its PAL or NTSC, the frames per second of the source and match that with your mpeg2enc.

    best of luck.
if yours does sync please let me know, id like to private message you or ichat with you on what you did exactly
