  1. im trying to get some of my old vcr tapes onto the pc, im using the avertv card, the thing is when i hook up my vcr to the tv card and record theres alot of background noise.

    just wanted to know if anyone could recommend any video software which can rid me of the background noise

    you can change your mixer settings to lower the Line In volume (and make sure you are going to the Line In and not the Microphone In - the Mic In adds a lot of gain [volume] to the signal - the outs on your VCR are Line level) and your capture utility may have a setting for the volume level as well.

    I notice that my captures so far with my Aver DVD EZMaker card are really loud... but I haven't tracked down exactly why.

    If you have a lot of background noise still, try CoolEdit - you can download a trial version, and their Noise Reduction feature is really easy - basically you select a section of just background noise, then tell the program to filter out everything that sounds like it.

    if you're talking about video noise (specks and grit on the image), someone else will have to answer...

    ps - forgot to say - don't know if the latest CoolEdit will import video files, if not, you can use TMPEGEnc to split the audio and video, then process the audio portion with CoolEdit, then use TMPEGEnc to join them back together...
