I just recently ordered a 25 pack spindle of Ritek 2.4X DVD+RW for $53.99....Do you guys use Ritek? Is their media reliable and compatible with Sony standalone DVD players?

I never heard of it, but i'll keep it in mind if I see it for sale. Do you think "name brand" DVD media is actually more reliable than "generic" brands? Or do you think it's all the same stuff? And is Ritek considered to be "name brand" like Memorex, Sony, Verbatim..........or is it considered "generic"?
    Quote Quote
  6. I think it is generic as alot of different brands use the ritek dye for their discs..I have been told,as long as a dye is ritek it is considered a good and reliable disc..The only reason i bought bulkpaq is because a friend of mine has had only a few problems with them, and they are very cheap a buck a piece.

I've used Verbatium with only good success. YOu can get them at Sam's for $23.99 for 12 pack in separate cases. Why mess with anything else when you know Verbatium is great.

Money... Ritek is cheaper than Verbatim (close to $1 each if you buy bulk). Of course generic is cheaper than Ritek (70-80 cents per disk)...

Wow... That's cheap. PCCLUB is Price Club, is it?

  15. Ritek is by far the biggest DVD manufacturer in the world with about 50% of the market share.

The only drawback is Ritek is unable to keep up with the demand and prices have gone up a bit in the last months.

Same here, Ritek and Verbatium is all I've purchased in recent memory.

  18. I guess I'm the only one that had a bad experience with Ritek G03s. Apparently, Ritek has its ups and downs. There are many reports regarding successes of Riteks', however you have to watch out for bad batches. There has been more than one report of them having issues.

  19. what about princo??

  20. I will ad my disappointment with Ritek G03's and a Pioneer A04. Glitchy, freezes about half way through the movie. I hope it was just a bad batch.

UPDATE: I was using Firmware version 1.31 and had the problems with the Ritek G03 7's......I upraded to version 1.40 and the problems went away. I also used the 2x hack and they burn fine at 2x, no problems. So I take back my disappointment with Ritek's.

Princo = PrincNO if you ask most people. At the same rate others say they have no problem with them.

BTW just something I hadn't mentioned before, when I purchased my new DVR-105 which was rebranded by Pine the 4x disk that came in the box was Ritek G04.
    Quote Quote
  22. I have been using Ritek too for a long time. Never had a problem in any of my players. Also according to Riteks web site , they were the first DVD-R manufacturer in Taiwan to pass the DVD-Form's A-Grade lab certification test. So they must be pretty good.
    Quote Quote
  23. I have used Princo on my DVR-105 and they work fine with 2x burning and both xbox, data and video. Unfortunatly i have just bought 150 purple bulkpaq as i thought the dye was the same as Princo but they have swithced manufacturer so the dye is not princo anymore, and as a result i have now 30 for 30 coasters. I have just ordered 150 Datasafe classic 1x with the ritek dye,as they are supposed to be great for allround use..

Has anybody got any experience with dataloss over a period of time (from 2-6 months) on any of the DVD-R brands you guys use??

Yeah there's TONS of dataloss problems on Princo's..........do a simple scan of the media forum or a search and you'll that they are absolutely terrible discs.

    I have 90 of them I won't touch, you want them ?

As I've joked before, I won't even use them as coasters for fear my beer will disappear.....

  25. Also to all of you guys that have riteks... I need info. I wrote to the Ritek corporation because I have seen that some of the RitekG03 disk have different lead-in codes on them and I'm trying to find out what they differences are. You can use DVDinfo (download from this site) to find out the code on the disk. They responed to me asking if I could send them a picture of each type along with what the S/N is (located on the middle of the disk in the format of XX-XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX )

Notice the codes below , on the right there are some differences... you have B@PY, J@PY, B@P7 and J@P7. All of my disk have been B@P7's. So if you own any of the other ones, can you send me S/N on it and a picture? If not a picture, then I will settle for just the s/n. This way I can write them back.

  26. It wasnīt just the princo dataloss i was interested in,it was general observations for the different brans people use..

How long does it usually take for the princoīs to loose the data? I have used them both for Xbox,DVD and Data so far i have had no problem whatsoever, but i havenīt had my burner for more than 2 weeks,so i will have to wait 6 months to see if the dvd copys i made will hold up..

I would love to have the 90 discs you have.

  27. I have used close to 500 or so of the Ritek G04 with only about 4 bad disks. That too me says it all. Good media. I have also used another generic brand that I bough off Ebay. I have had 4 or 5 bad disks out of only 20 or so burnt with that. I will only use Ritek in the future. Besides I noticed with the Ritek G04 media on my firmware hacked 105 it will Rip at 6-7x whereas the others only rip at around 2x. I have also had good luck with Verbatim and Memorex.

Also, just go to Search up top, and do a search with the keywords - princo and bad / choose the media forum for it to search.

    Read away......

My Bro in Law has had multiple Xbox games go bad and fail following them intially working flawlessly.

I've gone through my first 25 "DVD Pro" DVR's which are Princo media and have not had a single problem. They play fine in my "GoVideo" set top player which isn't supposed to support DVD or CD R/RW media. Prior to getting my DVD burner I made VCD's using Princo media, the only CDR that my junk "GoVideo" player would work with.

Got extra Princo's? I'll take em!
